Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur combines a fused connection unit, rocker switch, neon indicator and bottom-exit flex outlet behind an anthracite screwless faceplate. The fuse holder accepts a standard 13A BS1362 cartridge fuse, isolating the spur circuit from the mains supply and providing localised overcurrent protection for a fixed appliance.

Designed for hardwiring appliances that need a switched and fused connection point rather than a plug socket, the unit suits boilers, extractor fans, water heaters, built-in ovens and kitchen appliances where the cable exits downwards through the flex outlet. The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the 'on' position, providing visual confirmation that power is live to the downstream appliance without needing to open the unit.

The anthracite finish is a dark charcoal grey with a low-sheen metallic surface, closer to gunmetal than black. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate steel sub-frame fixed to the back box, hiding all fixings and giving a flush 4.3mm projection from the wall once installed. The premium-grade steel construction and built-in gasket provide rigidity and a tight seal against the wall surface. Certified to BS 1363-4 with a 25-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a fused spur used for?

A fused spur provides a permanent hardwired connection to a fixed appliance, with a local fuse protecting the downstream circuit. It replaces a plug socket where an appliance like a boiler, extractor fan or built-in oven needs a dedicated switched connection point.

What does the flex outlet do?

The flex outlet is a cable exit aperture at the bottom of the unit. It allows the appliance cable to exit downwards through the faceplate rather than looping out from behind, giving a neater cable route when the spur is mounted above the appliance.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making the total depth from the wall surface approximately 29mm.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate steel sub-frame that is screw-fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the spur and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
