What is a fused spur used for?

A fused spur provides a switched, fused connection to a dedicated circuit, typically for fixed appliances like boilers, extractor fans, water heaters or security systems. The integral fuse protects the connected appliance independently from the main ring circuit, and the switch allows the appliance to be isolated without switching off the entire circuit at the consumer unit.

What does the neon indicator show?

The neon illuminates red when the circuit is live (i.e. when the switch is in the 'on' position and mains power is present). This provides visual confirmation that the circuit is energised without needing to test with a multimeter or neon screwdriver.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The polished chrome cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that is fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the unit and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring or the sub-frame fixings.

Can this be used in a bathroom or outdoor location?

No. The IP20 rating means the unit is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For wet rooms, bathrooms or outdoor use, a higher IP-rated alternative would be required to comply with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
