Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides switched control and fuse protection for fixed appliances such as boilers, extractor fans, water heaters and electric towel rails. A red neon indicator sits above the switch rockers to show when the circuit is live, and a matching polished brass fuse holder clips into the left aperture to give access to the 13A fuse cartridge without removing the faceplate.

Designed for installation where a standard socket is not suitable or where Building Regulations require fused spur connection for appliances, the unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses Knightsbridge's Flat Plate design with an ultra-low 2.5mm projection from the wall once fitted. The polished brass finish provides a warm metallic accent that pairs well with traditional, classical and warm-toned contemporary interiors.

The faceplate measures 87.5mm square and is constructed from premium-grade steel with a polished brass coating. An integrated gasket sits between the faceplate and the back box to prevent dust and moisture ingress up to IP20 rating. The unit is certified to BS 1363-4 and carries a 25-year warranty, indicating Knightsbridge's confidence in the longevity of the switched mechanism and metal construction.

Frequently Asked

What appliances require a fused spur?

Fixed appliances such as boilers, extractor fans, electric water heaters, towel rails and hard-wired bathroom equipment typically require fused spur connection rather than plug-and-socket connection. Building Regulations often specify fused spurs for appliances in wet zones or where the appliance must not be easily unplugged.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator above the switch illuminates when the circuit is live and switched on. This confirms at a glance that the appliance should be receiving power, making it easier to diagnose faults or confirm isolation during maintenance.

Can the fuse be changed without removing the faceplate?

Yes. The polished brass fuse holder clips into the left aperture on the faceplate and can be pulled out to access the 13A fuse cartridge inside. This allows fuse replacement without isolating the circuit or unscrewing the faceplate from the back box.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The Flat Plate design adds only 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a nearly flush finish.
