Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides switched isolation for hardwired appliances, with a red neon indicator that illuminates when the circuit is live. The unit is finished in matt black premium-grade steel with rounded edges and a matching rocker and fuse holder. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, giving additional safety for high-draw kitchen appliances, water heaters, and heating controls.

Designed for hardwired appliances that need permanent connection rather than plug-and-socket installation, the fused spur suits kitchen hobs, extractor fans, under-cabinet lighting, immersion heaters, and similar fixed loads up to 13A. The neon indicator allows the user to confirm at a glance that power is reaching the appliance without needing to switch the unit on and off. The 87.75mm square faceplate fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses visible screw fixings at top and bottom.

The matt black finish is a low-sheen powder-coated steel that resists fingerprints and pairs with black kitchen appliances, dark worktops, and contemporary industrial interiors. The rounded edge profile softens the transition from wall to plate, giving a less angular appearance than standard flat-edge plates. The built-in gasket between the faceplate and back box reduces dust ingress and improves the long-term fit. Certified to BS 1363-4 and backed by a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a fused spur used for?

A fused spur provides switched, fused isolation for hardwired appliances that don't use a standard plug and socket. Common applications include kitchen hobs, extractor fans, immersion heaters, under-cabinet lighting, and heating controls. The 13A fuse protects the circuit and the neon indicator shows when the circuit is live.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon illuminates when the circuit is live, regardless of whether the switch is on or off. This allows you to confirm that mains power is reaching the unit without needing to test the appliance itself.

Is this a single pole or double pole switch?

The switch is double pole, meaning it isolates both the live and neutral conductors when switched off. This provides additional safety when servicing or replacing connected appliances.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The faceplate adds 7.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted. The unit uses screw terminals and requires adequate box depth to accommodate cable terminations and the fuse carrier.
