Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides double-pole switched control for fixed appliances, with a red neon indicator that shows when the circuit is live. The unit carries a 13A rating at 230V and fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The brushed chrome square edge faceplate is stamped from premium grade steel with a directional brushed finish.

Designed for permanent appliance installation in kitchens, utility rooms and commercial premises, the fused spur controls appliances such as extractor fans, under-cabinet lighting, water heaters, dishwashers and washing machines. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing additional safety for high-draw or water-adjacent appliances. The neon indicator remains visible when the switch is on, confirming the appliance has mains power available.

The square edge design sits flush to the wall with no bevelled edges, giving clean lines in contemporary and industrial interiors. The matching rocker and fuse holder are finished in the same brushed chrome, maintaining visual consistency across the faceplate. The unit is certified to BS 1363-4 and carries IP20 protection, suitable for dry indoor locations. Knightsbridge backs this model with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a fused spur used for?

A fused spur provides permanent switched control for fixed appliances that do not plug into a standard socket. Common applications include extractor fans, under-cabinet lighting, water heaters, dishwashers and washing machines. The unit contains a replaceable fuse that protects the appliance circuit.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator lights up when the switch is in the on position and mains power is live to the appliance. This provides visual confirmation that the circuit is energised, which is useful for appliances that do not have their own indicator lights.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The faceplate adds 10.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted. Use a standard UK single-gang metal back box.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means this unit is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For bathroom installations, particularly within zones 1 or 2, a higher IP-rated model would be required. Consult a qualified electrician for bathroom electrical work.
