Description
The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides a dedicated, switchable connection for fixed appliances such as boilers, extractor fans, bathroom heaters and kitchen waste disposal units. The unit includes a neon indicator that glows red when the switch is in the 'on' position, confirming that power is reaching the downstream appliance without needing to check the appliance itself.
Designed for permanent wiring installations where an appliance needs its own fused supply separate from the ring main, the fused spur isolates the appliance circuit and protects it with a 13A cartridge fuse housed in a matching brushed chrome fuse holder. The switch allows the appliance to be isolated for servicing or seasonal shutdown without needing to turn off a circuit breaker. The 25mm minimum back box depth makes it compatible with standard UK metal boxes, and the unit carries BS 1363-4 certification for fused connection units.
The flat plate design sits only 2.5mm proud of the wall once fitted, giving an ultra-low profile that reduces the projection into the room compared to traditional raised or curved faceplates. The brushed chrome finish provides a directional grain texture that softens reflections and pairs well with stainless steel appliances, modern kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. The steel construction and integrated gasket provide a secure fit to the back box, and Knightsbridge backs the unit with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What appliances is a fused spur typically used for?
Fused spurs are used for fixed appliances that need a permanent connection rather than being plugged into a socket. Common applications include boilers, extractor fans, bathroom heaters, kitchen waste disposal units, cooker hoods, electric towel rails and wall-mounted air conditioning units.
What does the neon indicator show?
The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the 'on' position, confirming that the fused spur is supplying power to the downstream appliance. This allows you to check the unit's status without needing to inspect the appliance itself.
Is the fuse holder accessible without removing the faceplate?
Yes. The fuse holder is behind a hinged or clip-out cover within the faceplate, allowing the 13A cartridge fuse to be replaced without disconnecting the unit from the back box or exposing any wiring.
Can this be used in bathrooms?
Yes, provided it is installed outside the defined bathroom zones (typically Zone 0, 1 and 2) where IP rating requirements apply. The IP20 rating means the unit is suitable for dry indoor locations. Consult BS 7671 wiring regulations or a qualified electrician for zone placement in bathrooms.
