Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit isolates and protects a single hard-wired appliance from the ring main, with a rocker switch on the faceplate and a replaceable 13A fuse behind the cover plate. The flex outlet at the base of the unit allows cable to exit downwards into the wall cavity or run along the skirting, keeping wiring routes concealed on installation.

Designed for fixed appliances that draw up to 3,120W continuously — boilers, immersion heaters, kitchen extractor fans, bathroom fans, electric towel rails — the fused spur provides a dedicated isolation point without needing a plug socket. The rocker switch cuts power to the appliance without needing to access a consumer unit, making seasonal or maintenance shutdown straightforward. The white thermoset resin plate includes screw cap covers that conceal the fixing screws once installation is complete.

The 9mm square edge plate is moulded from thermoset resin with tested anti-microbial properties to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface in kitchens, bathrooms and clinical environments. The 86mm square faceplate fits UK single-gang back boxes with a minimum depth of 25mm, and the IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations. Knightsbridge backs this unit with a 25-year warranty, and the fused spur is certified to BS 1363-2 for UK mains installation.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a fused spur used for?

Fused spurs are used for hard-wired appliances that draw continuous load and do not need a plug socket — common examples include boilers, immersion heaters, extractor fans, electric towel rails, and wall-mounted heaters. The fused spur isolates the appliance from the ring main and provides a convenient switch point without needing to access the consumer unit.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The 9mm plate projection adds to the overall depth once installed.

Can the fuse be replaced?

Yes. The cover plate can be removed to access the fuse holder behind. The unit takes a standard 13A BS 1362 fuse, widely available from electrical retailers.

What does the anti-microbial property do?

The thermoset resin is tested to ISO 22196:2011 for anti-microbial performance, meaning it reduces bacterial growth on the surface. This is particularly useful in kitchens, bathrooms and medical or care environments where hygiene is a priority.
