Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides double pole switching and fuse protection for fixed appliances behind a brushed chrome square edge faceplate. The unit isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, controlling permanent connections to appliances such as wall-mounted water heaters, electric towel rails, extractor fans and kitchen appliance circuits.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the fused spur fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw terminals for cable connection. The square edge faceplate sits flush with the wall surface once installed, with an integrated gasket between the plate and back box to prevent dust ingress behind the fitting. The matching brushed chrome rocker switch and fuse holder aperture give a consistent finish across the faceplate.

The brushed chrome finish uses premium grade steel with a directional grain that reduces fingerprint visibility and sits comfortably in contemporary, modern and minimalist interiors. The unit is certified to BS 1363-4 and carries an IP20 rating, suitable for dry indoor environments. The 89mm square faceplate dimension matches standard UK switch and socket sizing, allowing the fused spur to align with other Knightsbridge square edge accessories in the same finish.

Frequently Asked

What appliances require a fused spur instead of a socket?

Fused spurs are used for fixed appliances that are hard-wired rather than plugged in — typically wall-mounted water heaters, electric towel rails, extractor fans, and kitchen appliances like ovens or hobs. The switched fused spur allows the appliance to be isolated for maintenance without needing to access a consumer unit.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The faceplate adds 10.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

What does double pole switching mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is a safety requirement for certain fixed appliances and gives more secure isolation than single pole switching.

What fuse rating should be used?

The fused spur accepts a standard 13A cartridge fuse. The fuse rating should match the appliance load — typically 3A for low-power appliances like extractor fans, 5A for water heaters, or 13A for higher-draw appliances. Refer to the appliance manufacturer's installation instructions for the correct fuse rating.
