Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides switched control and fuse protection for a dedicated electrical circuit, housed behind a brushed chrome screwless faceplate. The unit combines a rocker switch with a fuse holder that takes a standard 13A BS 1362 cartridge fuse, allowing appliances like boilers, extractor fans and bathroom heaters to be hard-wired into a circuit with local isolation and overcurrent protection.

Designed for residential and light commercial installations, the fused spur fits into a standard 25mm minimum back box and uses a screwless cover plate that clips onto a separate metal sub-frame. This means the finished installation has no visible screws or fixings on the wall surface, giving a cleaner appearance than traditional screw-fixed plates. The rocker switch sits flush with the faceplate when off and projects approximately 2mm when depressed, providing tactile feedback on switch position.

The brushed chrome finish is applied to premium-grade steel with a directional grain that softens reflections under direct light. The faceplate measures 87.5mm square with 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted, making it compatible with standard UK single-gang switch plate spacing. The unit is certified to BS 1363-4 and carries an IP20 rating for indoor dry locations. A built-in gasket between the faceplate and sub-frame reduces ingress of dust and provides a defined edge seal once the plate is clipped into position.

Frequently Asked

What is a fused spur used for?

A fused spur provides a dedicated, switched and fused connection for hard-wired appliances like boilers, extractor fans, bathroom heaters and cooker hoods. The fuse protects the appliance circuit from overcurrent, and the switch allows the appliance to be isolated locally without turning off the circuit breaker.

What fuse does it take?

The unit takes a standard BS 1362 cartridge fuse rated up to 13A. The fuse rating should match the appliance load — typically 3A for low-power devices like extractor fans, or 13A for higher-draw appliances like heaters. The fuse holder is accessed by removing the screwless cover plate.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that is fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the fitting or for accessing the fuse holder, then re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
