Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides a hard-wired connection for appliances requiring a fused supply, housed behind a brushed chrome rounded-edge faceplate with matching rocker and fuse holder. Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral connections when turned off, providing enhanced safety over single-pole designs for permanent wiring installations.

Designed for kitchens, utility rooms, garages and commercial spaces where appliances such as boilers, extractor fans, water heaters or integrated ovens need a permanent fused connection, the spur unit replaces the need for a plug-and-socket arrangement. The unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and includes an integrated gasket that sits between the faceplate and the wall surface to reduce dust ingress behind the plate.

The brushed chrome finish is a directionally-brushed satin metal surface that softens reflections compared to polished chrome, making it a practical choice for high-traffic areas where fingerprints and smudges are visible on mirror finishes. The rounded-edge profile reduces the visual bulk of the faceplate and sits flatter against the wall than bevelled or stepped-edge designs. The unit is certified to BS 1363-4 and carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked

What appliances typically use a fused spur?

Fused spurs are used for hard-wired appliances that need a permanent electrical connection rather than a plug and socket. Common examples include boilers, integrated ovens, extractor fans, bathroom heaters, towel rails, electric water heaters, and commercial kitchen equipment.

What fuse rating does it take?

The unit accepts a standard BS 1362 13A cartridge fuse. The fuse rating should be selected to suit the connected appliance load — typically 3A, 5A or 13A depending on the appliance manufacturer's specification.

What does double pole switching mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing complete isolation of the connected appliance. This offers greater safety than single-pole switching, which only breaks the live conductor.

Can it be used outdoors or in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means it is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For outdoor or bathroom installations, a higher IP-rated enclosure or product variant is required.
