Description

The Knightsbridge 13A fused spur unit is a switched connection point with integrated neon indicator and flex outlet at the base, designed to control fixed appliances such as water heaters, extractor fans, hand dryers and immersion heaters. The neon indicator glows red when the spur is switched on, providing visual confirmation that power is flowing to the connected appliance without needing to check the appliance itself.

Designed for kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms (where positioned outside zones 0-2) and commercial premises, the unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw-fixed covers with white screw caps for a clean finish. The flex outlet at the base allows cable to exit directly below the unit, avoiding the need to route flex through adjacent wall cavities or surface-mount trunking. The 13A rating handles loads up to 3,120W at 230V.

The faceplate is moulded from thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, inhibiting bacterial growth on the surface of the switch — a practical feature in kitchens, communal laundries and healthcare environments where hygiene standards matter. The square edge profile sits flush with the wall and the 9mm projection keeps the unit compact. Knightsbridge backs this unit with a 25-year warranty and BS 1363-2 certification.

Frequently Asked

What does the neon indicator do?

The neon glows red when the spur is switched on and power is flowing to the connected appliance. It provides visual confirmation without needing to check the appliance itself — particularly useful for immersion heaters, extractor fans and other fixed appliances where operational status is not immediately obvious.

What appliances can be controlled by a fused spur?

Fused spurs are used to control fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters, extractor fans, hand dryers, bathroom heaters and kitchen hood extractors. The 13A rating handles loads up to 3,120W.

What is the flex outlet for?

The flex outlet at the base of the unit allows cable to exit directly below the faceplate, avoiding the need to route flex through adjacent wall cavities. This simplifies installation when connecting appliances positioned close to the spur unit.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the unit is not suitable for installation within bathroom zones 0, 1 or 2 where water contact is possible. It can be fitted outside these zones where there is no direct water exposure, typically for controlling an extractor fan or heater mounted higher on the wall.
