Description

The Knightsbridge 13A fused spur unit provides a switched, fused connection point for hardwired appliances behind a white 9mm square-edge faceplate. A flex outlet at the base of the unit allows cable to exit downwards, making it suitable for wall-mounted appliances like water heaters, kitchen extractors, bathroom fans and under-cabinet lighting where a standard plug socket is not appropriate.

Designed for residential, commercial and healthcare environments, the unit is constructed from thermoset resin with third-party-tested anti-microbial properties to ISO 22196:2011 standard. This makes it particularly suitable for clinical, care and food-preparation settings where surface hygiene is critical. The square-edge profile sits 9mm proud of the wall and includes screw cap covers for a clean finish once installed. The unit fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth.

The 13A rating handles appliance loads up to 3,000W on 230V mains, and the integrated fuse carrier accepts a standard BS 1362 13A cartridge fuse for overcurrent protection. The IP20 rating confirms the unit is suitable for dry indoor locations. Certified to BS 1363-2, the unit carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty covering material and workmanship defects under normal use.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a fused spur unit used for?

Fused spurs are used for hardwired appliances that do not require a plug socket, such as water heaters, extractor fans, bathroom fans, under-cabinet lighting, and wall-mounted heaters. The flex outlet at the base of this unit allows the appliance cable to exit downwards through the wall.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 9mm square-edge faceplate then projects 9mm from the wall surface once fitted.

What does the anti-microbial property mean?

The thermoset resin construction has been third-party tested to ISO 22196:2011, confirming it reduces bacterial surface growth. This makes the unit suitable for healthcare, care home, clinical and food-preparation environments where surface hygiene is critical.

What fuse rating does it take?

The unit accepts a standard BS 1362 cartridge fuse, typically supplied with a 13A fuse for appliances drawing up to 3,000W. Lower-rated fuses (3A, 5A) can be fitted for smaller appliances to provide more precise overcurrent protection.
