Frequently Asked

What is a double pole switched socket?

A double pole (DP) socket switches both the live and neutral connections when turned off, fully isolating the appliance from the mains, whereas a single pole socket only breaks the live. DP is preferred where complete isolation is wanted, such as for kitchen appliances.

Can you change a single socket to a double socket?

Usually yes, provided the existing back box is a double (2-gang) box; a single-gang box must be swapped for a 2-gang box first. Installation should be carried out by a competent person in accordance with BS 7671.

How many sockets can be on a ring main?

There is no fixed limit on the number of socket outlets on a domestic ring final circuit serving a floor area up to 100m², but the circuit design must comply with BS 7671. Installation should be carried out by a competent person in accordance with BS 7671.

What does the red flash on the rockers mean?

The red flash is a visual ON indicator exposed when the rocker is switched on, so you can see at a glance which outlets are live.
