Description

The Knightsbridge SN9002 is a 13A 2-gang single-pole switched socket with dual USB charging ports (one Type-A, one Type-C) sharing a 5V DC 4.8A output. The socket uses a white square-edge thermoset resin plate with outboard rockers — the rocker switches sit outside the main faceplate apertures rather than within them, giving a slightly different visual profile to standard inboard-rocker designs.

Designed for residential, office and hospitality installation, the socket fits a standard 25-35mm back box depending on cable routing requirements. Top-access captive terminals allow cables to be inserted and tightened from above without the terminal screws dropping out during installation. Twin earth terminals support high-integrity earthing systems where separate earths are needed for socket and back box. The single-pole switching isolates only the live line when switched off, suitable for standard domestic and light commercial loads up to 13A (3,120W) per outlet.

The white thermoset resin construction carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface — a feature relevant to kitchens, care homes, healthcare environments and any setting where touch surfaces benefit from reduced microbial load. The 9mm plate projection from the wall gives the socket a low profile once fitted. The socket is certified to BS 1363-2 and EN 61000 standards for UK electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility.

The USB ports deliver a combined 5V DC 4.8A output shared between the two ports, meaning total draw across both ports cannot exceed 4.8A. If both ports are used simultaneously, charging speed will be slower than if a single device draws the full 4.8A. For surface mounting, a 35mm-deep pattress box (Knightsbridge CU1800) is required. The socket ships in a rip-top polybag with euro slot for retail display or project storage.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required?

The socket requires a minimum 25mm back box depth for flush mounting, though 35mm is recommended if cable routing is tight. For surface mounting, a 35mm-deep pattress box (Knightsbridge CU1800) is required.

What's the USB charging output?

The dual USB ports (one Type-A, one Type-C) share a combined 5V DC 4.8A output. If both ports are used simultaneously, the 4.8A is split between the two devices, reducing charging speed compared to a single device drawing the full output.

What does single-pole switching mean?

Single-pole (SP) switching isolates only the live line when the socket is switched off. The neutral remains connected. This is standard for UK domestic sockets. Dual-pole (DP) switching, which isolates both live and neutral, is typically used for higher-risk or commercial installations.

What are outboard rockers?

Outboard rockers sit outside the main faceplate apertures rather than within them. This gives a slightly different visual appearance and tactile feel compared to inboard-rocker designs, where the switches sit recessed within the faceplate cutouts.
