Description

The Knightsbridge MR9000 is a 13A 2-gang DP switched socket built into a heavy-duty metal clad steel box with a powder-coated silver finish. The socket provides two switched 13A outlets with double-pole switching that isolates both live and neutral lines, and comes with an integral back box so no separate mounting box is required.

Designed for garages, workshops, industrial environments, outdoor covered areas and utility rooms where robust construction is needed, the metal clad enclosure provides mechanical protection against impacts and rough handling. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations and covered outdoor areas protected from direct rain. The 45mm projection from the wall accommodates the integral back box and terminal space for cable entry from the rear or through knockouts.

The premium-grade steel construction is powder-coated for corrosion resistance and carries a 25-year warranty. The screw terminals accept standard UK twin-and-earth cable, and the twin earth terminals provide a solid earth connection. The socket is certified to BS 1363-2, the British Standard for 13A plugs, socket-outlets and adaptors. The white rocker switches carry red neon indicators showing when each outlet is live.

Frequently Asked

Does this need a separate back box?

No. The MR9000 comes with an integral metal back box built into the enclosure, so it can be surface-mounted directly to a wall without needing a separate flush or surface box. Cable entry is through knockouts in the rear or sides of the box.

What does IP20 mean for installation?

IP20 provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no protection against water ingress. This socket suits dry indoor locations and covered outdoor areas where it will not be exposed to rain or direct water spray. For outdoor exposed locations, a higher IP-rated enclosure is needed.

What does double-pole switching provide?

Double-pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the socket is switched off, providing a complete break in the circuit. This gives additional safety over single-pole switching when working on connected appliances or during maintenance.

What is the 25-year warranty based on?

Knightsbridge's 25-year warranty on this metal clad range covers manufacturing defects and material failure under normal use. It does not cover damage from misuse, incorrect installation, or environmental factors outside the product's IP rating.
