Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 2-gang 2-way toggle switch pairs two metal dolly toggles with a polished brass flat plate measuring 87.5mm square and projecting just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted. Each gang is rated at 10AX on 230V mains, handling resistive loads up to 2,300W per switch position, making this suitable for controlling incandescent, halogen and most LED lighting circuits from two locations.
Designed for through-lounges, hallways and staircases where lights need control from two separate entry points, the 2-way switching allows the same circuit to be operated from either switch location. The flat plate design sits nearly flush to the wall surface, with no visible screw fixings — the plate is secured from behind onto a separate metal mounting frame that attaches to the back box. The matching polished brass toggles move through a positive-action mechanism that clicks into the on and off positions.
The polished brass finish provides a warm metallic accent that suits period properties, heritage restorations and classical interiors, as well as contemporary schemes where brass is used as a detail accent. The steel plate is plated rather than painted, so the finish wears consistently and can be polished if it tarnishes over time. The ultra-low 2.5mm projection makes the switch suitable for installations where furniture sits close to the wall or where minimal protrusion is preferred for aesthetic reasons. A built-in gasket between the plate and the mounting frame provides IP20 protection against dust ingress.

Frequently Asked
What does 2-way switching mean?
2-way switching allows the same light circuit to be controlled from two separate switch locations. In a hallway or through-lounge, for example, you can switch the lights on when entering from one door and off when leaving through another. This requires a second 2-way switch at the other control point, wired in a specific loop configuration.
What back box depth is needed?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is required. The ultra-flat 2.5mm projection of the plate means the total wall protrusion once fitted is approximately 18.5mm from the finished wall surface.
What load can each gang handle?
Each gang is rated at 10AX on 230V, which equates to 2,300W resistive load per switch position. This handles most domestic lighting circuits including incandescent, halogen and LED loads, though some high-inrush LED circuits may require a lower total wattage to avoid switch wear.
Is the polished brass real metal or painted?
The plate is steel with a plated polished brass finish. It is not painted. Over time the brass may develop a patina or tarnish, which can be polished back to the original shine using a standard brass polish if preferred.
