Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang intermediate wide rocker switch provides the middle switching point in a three-way lighting circuit, typically on staircases or landings where a single light is controlled from three separate locations. The switch carries a 10AX rating on 230V mains, handling resistive loads up to 2,300W and suitable for standard domestic and commercial lighting circuits including LED, halogen and fluorescent fittings.
Designed to meet Building Regulations Part M for accessible dwellings, the wide rocker offers a larger target area for those with reduced dexterity or visual impairment. The white thermoset resin finish carries a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of approximately 8.9, providing sufficient visual contrast against most wall colours. The screwless curved edge design hides fixings behind a clip-on cover plate, giving a cleaner finish than traditional screw-fixed switches.
The switch body is constructed from thermoset resin with third-party-tested anti-microbial properties certified to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the switch surface in high-touch environments. The captive terminals retain terminal screws during wiring, preventing loss during installation. The 16mm minimum back box depth fits standard UK single gang back boxes, and the 14.6mm wall projection keeps the switch profile low.

Frequently Asked
What is an intermediate switch and where is it used?
An intermediate switch is the middle switch in a three-way lighting circuit, allowing a single light to be controlled from three separate locations. It sits between two two-way switches and is commonly installed on staircases with upper, middle and lower switching points, or in long corridors where multiple control positions are needed.
What does Part M compliant mean?
Part M of the UK Building Regulations sets standards for accessible and adaptable dwellings. The wide rocker design provides a larger switching surface for people with reduced dexterity or visual impairment, and the white finish with an LRV of 8.9 offers sufficient visual contrast against typical wall colours.
Is the screwless cover removable for redecorating?
Yes. The cover plate clips onto the switch mechanism and can be removed for painting around the switch, then re-clipped without re-wiring.
What back box depth is required?
A 16mm minimum back box depth is required for safe installation. Standard UK single gang back boxes are typically 25mm or 35mm deep, both of which accommodate this switch.
