Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way switch features a polished brass screwless faceplate with a matching brass metal rocker. Rated at 10AX, the switch handles lighting circuits up to 2,300W on 230V mains, making it suitable for standard domestic lighting loads including LED, halogen and incandescent circuits.
Two-way switching allows the light to be controlled from two different locations, typically used at opposite ends of a hallway, on either side of a bedroom, or at the top and bottom of a staircase. The switch works in pairs with another 2-way switch on the same circuit, with intermediate switches added if three or more control points are needed.
The screwless faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, hiding all fixings behind the brass cover plate for a clean wall finish. The 87.5mm square plate sits 4.3mm proud of the wall once installed and fits a minimum 16mm back box depth. The polished brass finish provides a high-gloss warm metallic surface that reflects light and suits traditional, classical and warm-toned interiors. The metal rocker matches the brass faceplate exactly, avoiding the visual break of a white or off-colour plastic insert.
Knightsbridge manufactures the switch from premium-grade steel with an IP20 rating for dry indoor use. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 standards and carries a 25-year warranty. An earth terminal is provided on the metal sub-frame, required for safe installation even when the switch itself does not switch an earth conductor.

Frequently Asked
What is the difference between 1-way and 2-way switching?
A 2-way switch allows a light to be controlled from two different locations, such as at either end of a hallway or at the top and bottom of stairs. This switch must be paired with another 2-way switch on the same circuit. A 1-way switch controls a light from a single location only.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. This is shallower than the standard 25mm back box depth required by many switches, making it suitable for installation in shallow wall cavities or surface-mounted back boxes.
Can the screwless plate be removed for redecorating?
Yes. The polished brass cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that remains fixed to the back box. The cover can be unclipped for painting or wallpapering around the switch and re-clipped afterwards without disturbing the wiring.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this switch style in multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, brushed brass, antique brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or browse the Knightsbridge category at Niori to find other variants in stock.
