Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way switch sits behind a polished brass flat plate measuring 87.5mm square with a 2.5mm projection from the wall. The switch is rated at 10AX on 230V, handling lighting loads up to 2,300W, and the 2-way wiring allows the same light to be controlled from two separate switch positions in a room.
Designed for hallways, staircases and larger rooms where lighting needs to be controlled from multiple points, the 2-way configuration pairs with a second switch on the same circuit to provide control from both ends of a corridor or top and bottom of a staircase. The flat plate design requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, making it compatible with shallow mounting boxes where space behind the wall is limited. The built-in gasket between the faceplate and back box provides a secure seal.
The polished brass finish is a high-gloss metallic coating over premium-grade steel construction, providing a reflective warm gold tone that pairs with traditional brass hardware, warm-toned joinery and classical interiors. The finish shows fingerprints more readily than brushed or satin brass, so suits low-traffic areas or interiors where regular wiping is part of the cleaning routine. The switch carries a 25-year warranty and is certified to EN 60669-1 for electrical safety and IP20 for indoor dry-location use.

Frequently Asked
What is a 2-way switch used for?
A 2-way switch allows the same light to be controlled from two separate switch positions, typically at opposite ends of a hallway, top and bottom of a staircase, or either side of a large room. It requires two 2-way switches wired together on the same circuit.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. The flat plate adds only 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making this suitable for installations where a shallow back box is required.
What load can a 10AX switch handle?
The 10AX rating on 230V handles lighting loads up to 2,300W, which covers most domestic and commercial lighting circuits including LED, halogen and incandescent bulbs.
How is the polished brass finish maintained?
Polished brass shows fingerprints and smudges more readily than brushed or satin finishes. Wipe with a soft dry microfibre cloth regularly. For heavier marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid brass polish or chemical cleaners which may damage the coating over the steel base.
