Description
The Knightsbridge BH22BC is a 100W IP65 outdoor bulkhead light with a grey aluminium base and a clear polycarbonate prismatic diffuser. The B22d bayonet lampholder accepts standard B22 bulbs up to 100W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose LED, halogen or traditional filament bulbs depending on the required light output and colour temperature.
Designed for exterior wall mounting on garages, outbuildings, porches, walkways and perimeter walls, the IP65 rating provides full protection against dust ingress and water jets from any direction. The 244mm length and 124mm width give substantial light spread, while the 120mm projection from the wall keeps the fitting clear of rendered or painted surfaces. The aluminium construction withstands outdoor weather exposure without corroding.
The prismatic polycarbonate diffuser distributes light evenly across the coverage area rather than creating a single bright spot directly below the fitting. This makes the bulkhead suitable for lighting larger areas like driveways or patio seating zones, where even distribution matters more than focused downlight. The grey finish on the aluminium base pairs neutrally with most exterior cladding, render and brickwork without creating strong colour contrast.
Dimming capability depends on the bulb fitted — pairing with a dimmable LED or halogen B22 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch allows output adjustment, while non-dimmable bulbs run at full brightness only. The Class I earthed construction requires connection to mains earth during installation.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The bulkhead takes a standard B22d bayonet bulb up to 100W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with an LED B22 bulb between 10-15W for equivalent light output to a traditional 100W halogen, choosing warm white (2700K-3000K) for residential applications or cool white (4000K-5000K) for security or task lighting.
Is it suitable for coastal or high-salt environments?
The aluminium base is designed for general outdoor use and will withstand typical UK weather exposure. In coastal areas with high salt spray, periodic rinsing with fresh water helps prevent salt build-up on the aluminium and extends the finish lifespan.
Can it be mounted on a ceiling as well as a wall?
Yes. The bulkhead can be surface-mounted on walls or ceilings. On ceiling installations, ensure the prismatic diffuser faces downward and that cable entry from above is sealed to maintain the IP65 rating.
How is the prismatic cover cleaned?
The polycarbonate diffuser can be wiped with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that can scratch or cloud the polycarbonate. For stubborn dirt or insect residue, remove the cover (switch off power first) and wash in warm soapy water before refitting.
