Description

This Knightsbridge 1-gang surface mount box is a 92.5mm square polycarbonate enclosure with a 32mm internal depth, designed to house single-gang switches or sockets where flush mounting into the wall is not possible. The grey polycarbonate construction provides impact resistance and thermal stability suitable for both residential and commercial installations.

The box suits applications where cables run externally along walls, such as garage conversions, workshops, utility rooms and period properties where cutting into solid masonry or tiled surfaces is impractical. The 32mm depth accommodates standard wiring connections for screwless and flat plate switches and sockets without cable compression. The box mounts to the wall surface using two fixing screws through pre-drilled mounting points at opposite corners.

The grey finish is neutral enough to blend with industrial, workshop and modern interiors without the visual prominence of white surface boxes on darker walls. The polycarbonate material carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for dry indoor locations but not for bathrooms, outdoor use or areas exposed to moisture. Cable entry points are moulded into the back and sides of the box, allowing knockout removal for cable routing from multiple directions.

What switches and sockets does this fit?

The box is compatible with any standard 1-gang screwless or flat plate switch or socket. The 92.5mm square footprint matches the mounting hole centres used across Knightsbridge and most other UK accessory ranges.

Can it be used outdoors or in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the box is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For bathrooms, outdoor use or damp areas you need a box with a minimum IP44 rating and sealed cable glands.

Does it include an earth terminal?

No. This box does not have a dedicated earth terminal. The earth connection is made at the switch or socket terminals that mount inside the box.

How is the cable routed into the box?

Cable entry points are moulded into the back and sides of the box. You knock out the required entry point with a screwdriver or similar tool, then feed the cable through. The box does not include cable glands or grommets.
