Description

A switched 13A power point with charging built in, finished in a carbon fibre weave that gives the plate a dark, textured face rather than a flat gloss. The front is screwless, so nothing interrupts it but the chrome rocker and the chrome trim framing the socket. A neon insert shows at a glance whether the switch is live. Two USB-A ports sit within the plate, sharing 10W between them, which suits a phone, a tablet or a pair of earbuds on charge overnight.

This is the one we reach for beside beds, on home office desks and at the end of a kitchen run, wherever a plug-in charger would otherwise take up the socket you actually want for the kettle or the lamp. Hallways and landings benefit too, giving a place to top up a phone without a trailing lead across the floor. It belongs in dry rooms inside the house and runs from an ordinary household supply. We would specify it in pairs at either side of a bed, so both sides get power and charging from the same plate.

The plate and rocker are moulded ABS, with the carbon fibre pattern running across the visible face and the chrome insert picking up light at the switch and socket mouth. To clean it, flick the rocker off first, then take dust off with a dry cloth; if the plate has picked up marks, a cloth barely damp with water will lift them. Keep polishes, cream cleaners and anything solvent based away from the chrome, as they leave it cloudy. It carries a ten year warranty. The dark weave sits well against deep kitchen cabinetry, smoked glass and walnut, and it reads as quietly technical next to a desk full of cables, which is exactly where most of ours end up.
