Description

Deep navy blue with a chrome rocker and a neon indicator set into the plate, this is a one gang double pole switch rated at 20A. The screwless front has nothing on its face to break up the colour, so what you see is a flat panel of navy with a single bright rocker at its centre. The action is firm and positive, and the neon glows to show the circuit is live, which takes the guesswork out of an appliance you cannot see or hear from the doorway.

Double pole switching breaks both live and neutral, so it is the sort of switch we reach for on fixed appliances rather than general lighting alone: immersion heaters, towel rails, extractor fans and the like. It earns its place in kitchens, utility rooms, airing cupboards and bathrooms outside the zones, where an isolator that reads as part of the decoration is better than one that shouts. If you have been putting coloured plates through the house, this gives you the same treatment on the working circuits. It is for dry rooms on a household supply, indoors.

The plate is moulded ABS in a solid painted navy, double insulated to Class 2, and the chrome insert gives it a little lift against the darker body. Being a moulding rather than a metal pressing, it takes the colour evenly and will not show the wear along an edge that painted steel sometimes does. Keep a soft cloth to hand and wipe the plate with it dry; if fingermarks build up around the rocker, barely damp is enough, and nothing solvent based should touch the paint. The square 88mm format lines up neatly beside other plates of the same size, and the chrome picks up brushed or polished door furniture without needing to match it exactly. It carries a ten year warranty.
