Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang blanking plate provides a polished brass cover for unused or redundant back boxes on 87.5mm centres. The flat plate design sits 2.5mm proud of the wall, making it one of the lowest-profile blanking plates available in the Knightsbridge range. A built-in gasket around the edge of the plate creates a seal against the wall surface, preventing dust and debris from entering the back box.

Designed for residential, hospitality and commercial installation where a back box needs to be retained but temporarily or permanently covered, the blanking plate suits both new builds where extra boxes were installed for future use and renovation projects where socket positions have been relocated. The polished brass finish complements traditional and classical interiors, particularly when matching other polished brass switches and sockets in the same room.

The plate is constructed from premium-grade steel and carries an earth terminal, allowing it to be safely earthed to the back box even when covering a box that was previously live. The IP20 rating confirms it is suitable for dry indoor locations. The 25-year warranty covers material and finish defects across the product's lifespan. The plate meets IEC 60670-1 standards for fixed electrical installations.

Frequently Asked

What back box does this fit?

The 87.5mm square plate fits standard UK single-gang back boxes on 87.5mm centres. It works with both 25mm and 35mm depth boxes, and can cover metal or plastic boxes that were previously fitted with switches or sockets.

Does the blanking plate need to be earthed?

Yes. The plate includes an earth terminal and should be connected to the earth conductor in the back box, even when covering a box that is no longer live. This maintains earth continuity through the installation.

Can it be used on a box that still has live cables?

No. Before fitting a blanking plate, any live cables in the back box must be safely disconnected, terminated and isolated by a qualified electrician. The blanking plate is a cover only, not a safe method of isolating live circuits.

How is the polished brass finish maintained?

Polished brass will tarnish naturally over time. To maintain the bright finish, wipe occasionally with a soft microfibre cloth. For heavier tarnish, use a brass-specific metal polish applied sparingly and buffed immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
