Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang 47mm galvanised steel back box is a flush-mount enclosure for single-gang switches, sockets and dimmers in masonry and drywall installations. The 47mm depth accommodates deeper accessories or installations with additional cable volume, while the 73mm x 73mm faceplate aperture fits all standard UK single-gang accessories.

Constructed from 1mm-thick galvanised steel with a zinc coating for corrosion resistance, the box provides rigid support for heavier accessories such as metal faceplates, USB sockets and dimmer modules. One fixed mounting lug and one adjustable lug allow the box to be positioned vertically or horizontally, and the adjustable lug compensates for minor misalignment during installation. An integrated earth terminal provides a secure connection point for the circuit protective conductor.

The box includes pre-formed 20mm and 25mm knockouts on all four sides, allowing conduit or cable entry from multiple directions without needing to drill or cut the steel. This flexibility suits both new installations and retrofit projects where cable routing is constrained. The galvanised finish resists oxidation in damp conditions, making the box suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms where moisture exposure is higher than standard living spaces.

All standard UK single-gang switches, sockets, dimmers and data outlets with a 73mm x 73mm faceplate aperture fit this box. The 47mm depth provides clearance for deeper accessories such as USB sockets, WiFi switches and smart home modules.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

Yes. The galvanised steel construction provides corrosion resistance in damp environments. However, the accessories fitted to the box must carry the appropriate IP rating for the bathroom zone in which they are installed.

How are the mounting lugs adjusted?

The fixed lug is welded to the box and cannot be moved. The adjustable lug slides within a slot on the opposite side of the box, allowing vertical or horizontal positioning to align with fixing centres in the wall. Once positioned, the lug is secured with a screw.

What cable entry sizes are available?

The box includes pre-formed 20mm and 25mm knockouts on all four sides. These are pressed into the steel and can be punched out with hand pressure or a light tap. Additional cable entries can be drilled if required.
