The Zew 235U is a wall-mounted exterior light that throws beams both up and down from a slim black body. It runs two GU10 PAR16 lamps at up to 35W each on a 220 to 240V AC supply, giving you two opposing shafts of light that wash the wall above and below the fitting. Known in the US as an outdoor wall sconce, this up down format grazes the surface it is fixed to rather than spreading a wide flood, so the effect is a pair of bright vertical cones either side of the housing.

Fixed beside a front door, gate, garage or along a façade, the 235U marks an entrance and adds depth to brick, render or stone with its twin up and down throw. Because the light is directed rather than ambient, think of it in terms of accenting a wall and lighting the immediate area around a doorway rather than illuminating a whole space. Mount it at roughly head height by an entrance, or in a run along a longer wall for an even rhythm of light up and down the façade. Its IP44 rating means it suits covered and sheltered positions such as a porch, carport or recessed doorway, though it should be kept clear of fully exposed spots and direct water jets.

Can the Zew 235U be used outdoors?

It carries an IP44 rating, which means it is splash-resistant and suited to covered or sheltered outdoor positions such as a porch, carport or recessed doorway. It is not rated for fully exposed locations or direct water jets, so keep it under some cover where rain cannot strike it head on.

How does the up and down light effect work?

The 235U has openings at the top and bottom of its 235 mm housing, so each GU10 lamp casts a beam in opposite vertical directions. The result is two cones of light that graze the wall above and below the fitting, giving an entrance depth and a clear sense of architecture after dark.

What bulbs does it take and can it be dimmed?
