Description

The Zarate is a compact recessed LED downlight with a square face in matt black cast aluminium, 8cm long and 8cm wide. The integrated LED is tucked into the top edge of an offset round hollow, behind a small white plastic shade, and gives 90lm of warm white light at 3000K. That is a gentle, low output, so think of it as a marker or accent light rather than the main light in a room. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, away from bathrooms and the garden.

Recessed into a ceiling, it throws a soft pool of light down a wall, a good way to pick out a picture or bring warmth to a plain corridor. Set low in a wall just above the skirting, it lights the floor along a hallway or beside a bed, so nobody needs the main light at night. The square face sits almost flush with the plaster, and the black finish gives a crisp outline against pale walls while staying discreet whenever it is unlit. A row of them makes a neat guiding line from room to room.

The body is cast aluminium and weighs 0.15KG. It runs on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and has no switch of its own, so it is controlled from your wall switch. The LED and driver are built in and not replaceable: there is no bulb to buy or change, and when the LED reaches the end of its working life the whole fitting is replaced. Its energy class is G. To plan the fitting, allow a cut-out of 6.3cm and a recess depth of 4cm behind the surface. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
