Description
The York is a single-light outdoor wall lantern in black die-cast aluminium with clear seeded glass panels and an E27 lampholder. The lantern design draws from traditional English coach lights, with a pyramidal roof cap, four-sided glass housing, and an upward-facing light source that casts light onto the wall above and diffuses through the textured glass. The IP23 rating provides protection against rain when mounted under eaves or porches.
Designed for front entrances, covered porches, garage side doors and sheltered patio walls, the York suits installations where the fitting is protected from direct weather exposure by an overhang or canopy. The upward light direction highlights architectural features above the fitting (lintels, brickwork, render texture) while the seeded glass diffuses light outward to illuminate the immediate wall area and ground below. The lantern mounts on a curved bracket arm that projects 180mm from the wall, positioning the light source away from the building face.
The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments better than pressed steel alternatives. The black powder-coat finish is baked onto the metal at high temperature, providing a durable surface that withstands UV exposure without fading to grey. The seeded glass texture breaks up the light source when viewed directly, reducing glare while maintaining good light distribution. The fitting accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose colour temperature and brightness to suit the application.
Frequently Asked
Can the York be used in fully exposed positions?
The IP23 rating provides protection against rain at an angle up to 60° from vertical, which makes it suitable for installation under eaves, porches or canopies. For fully exposed wall positions with no overhead protection, a higher IP rating (IP44 or IP65) would be more appropriate.
What bulb does it take?
The York takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for traditional porch lighting.
How far does it project from the wall?
The curved bracket arm projects approximately 180mm from the wall to the centre of the lantern body, positioning the light source away from the building face for better light distribution.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The die-cast aluminium construction with powder-coat finish provides better corrosion resistance than pressed steel, making it suitable for coastal environments when installed under shelter. Regular rinsing with fresh water will extend the finish life in high-salt areas.
