Description

The York is a single-light outdoor flush wall light built around a black die-cast aluminium frame with clear seeded glass panels and a pitched canopy roof. The lantern-style body sits directly against the wall with minimal projection, making it suitable for porches, doorways and walkways where a traditional coach lantern aesthetic is wanted but clearance is limited. An E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) sits inside the glazed chamber.

Designed for low-ceiling outdoor areas such as covered porches, porch ceilings under 2.2m, and side passages where a pendant or bracket would obstruct headroom, the York mounts flush to the wall on a concealed back plate. The IP23 rating provides protection against rain when the light is mounted under an overhang or soffit, but is not rated for fully exposed positions. The clear seeded glass diffuses the bulb glow softly while retaining brightness for door recognition and key-finding at night.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion in typical UK coastal and urban atmospheres. The black powder-coat finish pairs with black window frames, dark render, brick and timber cladding. The pitched roof and tapered body echo Georgian and Victorian coach lantern proportions, making the York a functional match for period properties as well as new-build homes adopting traditional detailing. The seeded texture on the glass adds visual interest when the light is off and softens the bulb outline when lit.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the York take?

The York uses a standard E27 bulb (sold separately). Most users fit a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb at 2700K for outdoor porch and door lighting. The fitting will accept up to 60W equivalent.

Is this suitable for fully exposed outdoor positions?

The IP23 rating protects against rain at angles up to 60° from vertical, making it suitable for covered porches, soffits and overhangs. For fully exposed walls without overhead protection, a higher IP rating (IP44 or IP65) is recommended.

How far does it project from the wall?

The York is a flush-mount design with minimal projection, typically 100-120mm from the wall to the front face of the glass. This makes it suitable for low-clearance areas where a bracket lantern would obstruct passage.

Can it be mounted on a ceiling?

While designed as a wall light, the York can be ceiling-mounted under a porch or soffit where the wiring exits from above. The pitched roof detail will face downwards in this orientation, but the lantern body will still function correctly.
