Description

The XLED is a directional GU10 spotlight bulb that puts out 500 lumens of 4000K cool white light while drawing just 4.9 watts, standing in for an old 53 watt halogen of the same shape. The cap is the familiar GU10 twist-lock, which runs straight off the mains at 220 to 240V AC, so there is no transformer to add (unlike the low-voltage GU5.3 / MR16 version). Stateside this is the PAR16 form, the small reflector spot most shoppers know as a can or track bulb. A 100 degree beam spreads the light fairly wide for a spot, washing a surface rather than throwing a tight pinpoint.

Across the home the XLED suits recessed downlight ceilings, kitchen track heads, display niches and over-counter spots where a crisp, neutral light helps with seeing clearly. Because it is a directional bulb rather than ambient room lighting, its job is measured by where the beam lands: the 100 degree spread covers a broad patch of worktop, shelf or splashback from a normal ceiling height, and grouping several across a run gives even cover without dark gaps between fittings. The cool 4000K tone reads clean and white, which keeps food, fabric and finishes looking true under it.

Light source is a PAR16 LED rated to 25,000 hours, with a CRI of Ra 80 for honest everyday colour and an efficiency of 112 lm/W. The bulb measures 50mm across and 53mm deep at 40g, so it drops into any standard GU10 holder with a quarter turn. It is non-dimmable, so pair it with a plain on/off switch rather than a dimmer circuit. Suitability for damp or outdoor spots depends on the fitting it sits in, not the bulb. The finish is silver. The XLED line also runs in warm white if a cosier tone suits the room better.

Frequently Asked

What fitting does this bulb need?

It has a GU10 twist-lock cap, the standard mains spotlight fitting found in most recessed downlights and track heads. You push it in and give it a quarter turn to lock. Unlike a GU5.3 / MR16 bulb it needs no transformer, as it runs directly on 220 to 240V mains.

What old bulb wattage does it replace?

The XLED draws only 4.9 watts itself but gives the output of a 53 watt halogen spot, so you get the same brightness for a fraction of the energy. It produces 500 lumens at 4000K cool white. Over a rated 25,000 hour life that adds up to a clear running-cost saving against the old halogen.

Is this bulb dimmable?

No, this is a non-dimmable bulb, so it should be used on a standard on/off switch. Fitting it on a dimmer circuit can cause flicker or buzzing and may shorten its life. If you need dimming, choose a bulb specified as dimmable instead.

How wide is the beam and where does it suit?

It has a 100 degree beam, which is wide for a spotlight and washes a broad area rather than throwing a narrow spot. That makes it a good match for kitchen worktops, splashbacks, display shelves and general ceiling downlighting. Space several across a run for even cover with no dark gaps.
