Description

The Winchester is a black outdoor wall lantern with a four-sided glass lantern housing suspended from a scrolled bracket and decorative backplate. The die-cast aluminium frame is powder-coated in black, and each face of the lantern is fitted with hammered clear glass divided by cross-bars, creating a grid pattern across the panels. An E27 bulb inside the housing (sold separately) shines through the textured glass, diffusing the light outwards and downwards.

Designed for covered porches, front door entrances and side passages where some weather protection exists, the Winchester carries an IP23 rating, which means it resists vertical rain and light spray but is not suitable for fully exposed positions or direct jet washing. The downward-facing opening at the base allows heat and moisture to escape, preventing condensation buildup inside the glass housing. The 237mm projection from the wall positions the lantern clear of rendered or brick facades.

The hammered glass softens the light output, preventing harsh glare while maintaining good visibility around doorways and pathways. The scrolled bracket and pyramidal roof reference Victorian and early 20th-century street lanterns, giving the Winchester a traditional character that pairs well with period homes, cottages and heritage-style developments. The black finish works alongside both brick and painted render, and the five-year warranty covers the die-cast frame and powder coating against corrosion under normal outdoor use.

What does the IP23 rating mean?

IP23 means the lantern is protected against solid objects over 12.5mm and against rain falling at an angle up to 60 degrees from vertical. It suits covered porches and entrances where the light has some overhead protection, but is not rated for fully exposed walls or direct pressure washing.

What bulb should I use?

The Winchester takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users fit a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for a traditional glow through the hammered glass. Bulbs are sold separately.

Can this be fitted to a brick wall?

Yes. The backplate is drilled for wall-mounting onto brick, block or timber-clad walls. You will need appropriate fixings for the substrate (not supplied). The 237mm projection means the lantern sits clear of most rendered or textured facades.

Is the glass replaceable if damaged?

The glass panels are held in place by the die-cast frame. Replacement glass is available from Elstead Lighting's spares service. Contact them directly with the product code BL18-BLACK to order replacement panels.
