Description

The Winchester is a 185mm outdoor chain pendant with a black die-cast aluminium lantern frame and seeded clear glass panels on four sides. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W) behind the glass, and hangs from a matching black chain that allows the drop to be adjusted between 400mm and 525mm on installation. The IP23 rating permits installation under eaves, porches and covered doorways where the fitting is protected from direct rainfall but exposed to wind-driven spray.

Designed for entrance porches, covered verandas, and sheltered outdoor dining areas, the Winchester provides downward task light combined with ambient glow through the seeded glass panels. The adjustable chain allows the pendant to be set higher for clearance above doorways or lower for more concentrated light above a bench or table. The E27 fitting accepts standard LED, halogen or traditional filament bulbs — most users pair this with a 6-8W warm-white LED for a traditional oil-lamp appearance.

What does the IP23 rating mean for installation?

IP23 provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm and against water spray up to 60° from vertical. This means the pendant must be installed under a porch roof, eave overhang or veranda where it is sheltered from direct rain falling from above. It is not suitable for fully exposed positions without overhead cover.

What bulb is recommended?

The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W. A 6-8W warm-white LED (2700K) provides the closest match to a traditional oil lamp appearance while keeping running costs low. Filament-style LED bulbs work particularly well behind the seeded glass.

Can the chain length be shortened?

Yes. The 490mm chain can be adjusted during installation to achieve drops between 400mm and 525mm. Excess chain can be looped inside the canopy or removed entirely by an electrician if a shorter permanent drop is required.

Is the glass sealed or ventilated?

The lantern is ventilated to allow heat from the bulb to escape and to prevent condensation buildup inside the glass panels. This is standard for outdoor lanterns and prevents moisture damage to the bulb socket over time.
