Description

Wave is a ceiling light in opal. A wide shallow disc of opal glass, domed a little at the outer edge and then stepped down in a series of concentric rings toward a small metal boss at the dead centre. The rings read as ripples spreading from the middle, so the face is never flat and catches the light differently at every radius. The glass is warm white and thick, glowing evenly with no lamp showing behind it. A slim dark rim finishes the outer edge. It sits tight against the ceiling and is much wider than it is deep. It measures 30cm across and 5cm tall, in glass and metal.

Mounted flush it clears a doorway and a low ceiling, so a corridor, a landing or a small bedroom is its territory, and it lights the whole room evenly rather than pooling on one surface. It is the light you put in first and stop noticing, which is the point of a flush fitting: it does the general lighting so the lamps in the room can do the rest.

The LED is built in at 18W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It has 3 brightness settings, at 100%, 50% and 10% of output, changed by switching off at the wall and straight back on, so no dimmer is needed. The driver remembers whichever level you last left it on. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. It carries an E energy label.

Do I need to buy a bulb?

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 18W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

How do I change the brightness?

Switch off at the wall and straight back on. Each flick moves it to the next setting, at 100%, 50% and 10%. No dimmer is needed, and it remembers the level you leave it on.

Will it work on a dimmer?

It does not need one, and it should not be fitted to one. Brightness is controlled from the wall switch instead.

How bright is it at full?

Comparable to a 100W to 150W incandescent bulb at full, with the lower settings for evenings and a night light.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
