Description

The Knightsbridge wall-mounted emergency exit sign houses a 6W LED delivering 160 lumens of daylight-coloured light behind a green running-man pictogram panel. The pressed steel housing in a black powder-coat finish mounts flush to the wall via two keyhole slots on the rear backplate, and the LED illuminates both the pictogram and the surrounding exit route when mains power fails.

Designed for commercial buildings, schools, offices, retail premises and residential communal areas where Building Regulations Part B require emergency escape route lighting, the sign operates on 230V mains with an integrated battery backup that maintains illumination for a minimum duration during power outages. The 100-degree beam angle spreads light across the exit pathway rather than concentrating it in a narrow spot, giving even visibility across doorways and corridors up to 3m wide.

The pressed steel construction gives the unit a 390mm x 190mm faceplate with a 60mm projection from the wall once fitted. The black finish pairs with contemporary commercial interiors and fire door frames without standing out as institutional or obtrusive. The IP20 rating means the sign is suitable for indoor dry environments only — not bathrooms, outdoor canopies or unheated storage areas subject to condensation.

Frequently Asked

How long does the battery backup last during a power cut?

The integrated battery maintains illumination for a minimum duration during mains failure. Refer to the specification sheet in the Downloads tab for the exact backup duration rating for this model, which will be stated in hours as per BS 5266 emergency lighting standards.

Does this need to be wired by a qualified electrician?

Yes. Emergency lighting forms part of a building's fire safety infrastructure and must be installed by a competent person familiar with BS 5266 and Building Regulations Part B. The sign connects to a dedicated emergency lighting circuit or unswitched final circuit depending on the building's design.

Can it be used outdoors or in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the sign is suitable for dry indoor environments only. For bathrooms, plant rooms, outdoor canopies or any area subject to moisture or condensation, an IP-rated emergency sign (IP54 or higher) is required.

How is the sign tested for compliance?

Emergency lighting must be tested monthly (brief function test) and annually (full-duration discharge test) as required by BS 5266. The sign includes a test button or key-switch (refer to the specification sheet) to simulate mains failure and verify that the battery backup operates correctly.
