Description

Small, unfussy and made for the outside of the house, this one wears a graphite finish that sits quietly against brick, render and painted timber. It measures about 11cm across, so it takes up very little wall and stays well clear of a door swing. Behind the body is an E27 lampholder taking a lamp up to 15W, which an LED GLS covers easily. The fitting is not switched, so it takes its cue from whatever controls the circuit.

Front doors, back doors, porch walls, a passage down the side of the house, the wall by a garage or shed: anywhere you want light on the step without a lantern taking over. We would fit a warm white LED here and use a pair either side of a door, which keeps the light even and flatters brickwork. It also earns its place over a workshop door or by steps down to a basement flat, where you want the tread lit and nothing else. It suits anyone after something modest, and it is one we reach for on smaller houses and flats where a big carriage lantern would swamp the frontage.

The body is finished in graphite throughout, and being rated against dust and splashing water it copes with rain, spray off a path and the odd frost. Keep it tidy with a wipe of a damp cloth once the weather turns, taking off cobwebs, leaf dust and any salt if you live near the coast; let the lamp go cold first and turn the power off at the switch. It carries a two year warranty. The same graphite runs through a ceiling spotlight in the range, useful under a porch roof or a soffit. Lamps are not included.
