Description
A narrow upright body in graphite, this one takes two E27 lamps and measures barely 11cm across the wall. The proportions are tall rather than wide, so it reads as a slim line of light beside a door rather than a broad shade. Each lamp is rated to 15W, which suits the LED GLS lamps we would fit in it, and it will dim if you pair those lamps with a compatible dimmer. There is no switch on the body itself, so it works from a switch or circuit elsewhere.
It is rated for outdoor use and sealed against dust and splashing water, which covers a front porch, a back door, a side passage or a garden wall where rain reaches the fitting but standing water does not. A pair sits well either side of a front door, and a run of them can pick out a boundary wall or the walk up to a garage. We reach for something like this when a lantern would look too fussy for a modern brick or rendered frontage, and when the space beside the door is tight.
The graphite finish is a soft dark grey that holds its own against pale render and stays quiet against darker brick. Keep it looking well by wiping the body down with a damp cloth a few times a year, and more often if you are within reach of sea air, where salt builds up on any exterior fitting. It carries a two year warranty. The same look runs through a single lamp wall light and a small ceiling spotlight, both in graphite, so a porch and the soffit above it can be matched up. Lamps are not included.

Frequently Asked
What lamps does it take, and how big can they be?
It takes two E27 lamps, each up to 15W. LED GLS lamps in the A60 shape are the sensible choice here, and they are bought separately.
Can I put it on a dimmer?
Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a dimmer that is compatible with them. As it comes, there is no switch built into the fitting.
How far does it stand off the wall?
It projects 146mm from the wall and stands 300mm tall, on a footprint only 108mm wide, so it stays out of the way in a narrow porch or passage.
Is it suitable for a fully exposed wall?
It is rated IP54, so it copes with dust and splashed or driven rain. It is fine on an open wall or porch, but it should not sit anywhere water can pool around it or where it would be hosed directly.
How should I clean it?
Switch off at the wall and let the lamps cool, then wipe the body with a damp cloth and dry it off. Avoid abrasive creams and solvents, which will dull the graphite finish.
Does it work with warm white or cool white lamps?
Either, since the lamps are your choice. For a front door we tend to pick a warm white around 2700K, which is kinder on brick and render at night.
