Description

This is the tallest and the most decorative lamp post in Harte's Traditional range, standing 3.5m from the ground to the top of the finial. The column is cast iron on a stepped base with a galvanised mild steel shaft, carrying the tapered four-sided Victorian lantern the range is built around. It is a scaled version of an original Victorian park lamp rather than a reproduction of a modern one, and at this height it behaves like street lighting: the spread reaches far enough to light a turning circle, a forecourt or a long stretch of drive from a single point.

It is rated IP65, which is a step above most of the range and means it resists jets of water as well as rain, so it can stand in a fully open position with nothing above it. Glazing is polycarbonate rather than glass, which is the sensible choice at this height. It weighs 132.80KG and that figure decides the groundwork: a post this size is set on a galvanised foundation frame cast into concrete, which Harte make in three sizes, and it is delivered on a pallet rather than by parcel carrier.

The lantern takes an ordinary E27 screw lamp and is supplied without one, so the output and the colour stay your choice. Everything is made to order in New Ross, County Wexford, so allow two to five weeks, and any RAL colour can be sprayed in place of gloss black if you ask when ordering.
