Description

A round golf ball LED on a small screw cap, this one runs cool white at 4000K rather than the warmer tone most household bulbs default to. The bulb is clear rather than opal, so you look straight through to the light source and the output is not softened on its way out. It draws 4W for 470 lumens, roughly in line with a small traditional lamp, and it dims down provided the dimmer already on the circuit is rated to handle LED loads.

We reach for a bulb like this where the lamp is on show: a clear glass shade, an open chandelier arm, a wall light with the holder in view, or a bedside lamp under a slim shade. The cooler white reads closer to daylight, which makes it a sensible choice in kitchens, utility rooms, home offices and reading corners, and less of one in a bedroom where you want the light to settle.
