Description

A familiar household shape with a clear finish, the sort of bulb you can leave on show without it looking like a piece of technology. Light comes out warm and slightly golden at 2700K, around 470 lumens from a draw of 4W, and it fits a B22 bayonet cap. It dims too, though the circuit needs a dimmer made for LED loads, and no dimmer comes with the bulb.

We use bulbs like this wherever the bulb itself is visible: a pendant hung on flex with no shade, a table lamp under a slim shade, a glass wall light in a hallway. The warm tone sits well in sitting rooms, bedrooms and over a dining table, where a cooler light would feel clinical. It suits anyone still running bayonet cap fittings from the incandescent years, and anyone who wants the lights down low of an evening without the warmth draining out as they fall. It is a bulb for rooms inside the house rather than porches, sheds or anywhere that gets wet.

The finish is clear rather than frosted, so nothing softens the light before it leaves, and it spreads all round rather than being thrown forwards, which lets shades and diffusers fill evenly. Keep it clean and it keeps its output: switch the light off, wait until the bulb is cool to hold, then wipe it over with a dry cloth and keep solvents and damp sponges well away. It carries a five year warranty. We keep this as our plain warm white bayonet bulb, the one we hand over when someone wants the shape people picture when they think of a light bulb, and it earns its keep in fittings where the bulb is part of the look rather than hidden away.

Frequently Asked

Will it work with the dimmer I already have?

It is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer designed for LED loads. Older dimmers built for filament bulbs can cause flicker or buzz at the bottom of the range. No dimmer is supplied with the bulb.

What size is it?

It is a standard A60 shape, 60mm across the widest part of the bulb and 106mm tall including the cap, so it drops into most shades and pendants sized for a classic bulb.

Will it fit a screw cap lampholder?

No. This one has a B22 bayonet cap, with two pins that push and twist into the holder. For a screw fitting you would need an E27 version instead.

How bright is it?

It gives 470 lumens at a warm 2700K, which is a comfortable level for table lamps, bedside lights and pendants over a dining table rather than a single main light in a large room.

How long should it last?

Average life is rated at 15,000 hours, and it carries a five year warranty.

How should I clean it?

Turn the light off and let the bulb cool completely, then dust it with a dry cloth. Avoid sprays, solvents and anything damp near the cap.
