Description

This is a candle-shaped LED with a clear body and a bayonet cap, made as a like-for-like answer to the old incandescent candle lamps. It draws 4W and gives 470 lumens of warm white light at 2700K, the softer, yellower end of white that flatters evening rooms. Light leaves it in all directions rather than as a beam, so it reads just as well pointing upwards in a multi-arm fitting as it does hanging down inside a shade. It dims too, as long as the circuit has a dimmer rated for LED loads.

We reach for this one where the lamp itself is part of the look: chandeliers and multi-arm ceiling fittings, wall lights with clear glazing, small pendants, and table lamps whose shades sit high enough to leave the lamp on show. The bayonet cap makes it useful in older British fittings that were never changed over to screw caps. If you are lighting a dining table or a sitting room and want the light low and warm rather than bright and brisk, this is the sort of lamp to fill the fitting with, and several of them on one dimmer give a good deal of control over how a room feels after dark.

The clear finish keeps the fitting looking light and lets the metalwork read properly instead of being masked behind a frosted white ball. It is slim and very light in the hand, which helps when you are reaching up over a table to change a lamp. It carries a three year warranty. To clean it, wait until it has cooled, then wipe it with a dry cloth and keep household sprays away from the cap. We would pair it with polished brass or antique brass fittings, where warm light and a clear lamp suit each other. A dimmer switch is not supplied.
