Description

The Knightsbridge NETCAT5BK is a UTP CAT5e RJ45 outlet module measuring 25 x 50mm, designed to fit euro-module faceplates in residential and commercial network installations. The module houses a single RJ45 socket on the front face and IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) terminals on the rear for terminating CAT5e twisted-pair cable without requiring specialist crimp tools.

Designed for modular wall plate systems, the module snaps into euro-module apertures on compatible faceplates, allowing network and data sockets to be combined with power sockets, HDMI, coaxial and other AV modules on a single wall plate. The 25mm minimum mounting box depth accommodates standard 35mm back boxes used across UK electrical installations, making retrofit installation straightforward without requiring deeper back boxes.

The ABS construction provides impact resistance and dimensional stability behind the faceplate, while the black finish integrates cleanly with black and graphite modular faceplates. The IDC terminals accept solid core CAT5e cable from 22-26 AWG and use the punch-down termination method, where the cable is pushed into the terminal block with a punch-down tool that simultaneously cuts through the cable insulation and makes electrical contact with the copper conductor. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations.

This module fits euro-module faceplates with 25 x 50mm apertures. Knightsbridge produces modular faceplates in various finishes (polished chrome, brushed chrome, matt black, white) that accept this and other 25 x 50mm modules for network, AV and telecom connections.

What termination tool is needed for the IDC terminals?

A standard 110-style or Krone-style punch-down tool is required to terminate the CAT5e cable into the IDC terminals. The tool pushes the cable into the terminal block, cutting through the insulation and making contact with the copper conductor in a single action.

Does this support Gigabit Ethernet speeds?

CAT5e cable and connectors support Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) up to 100 metres cable run length, provided the cable is correctly terminated and the total installation meets CAT5e specification for crosstalk and attenuation.

What back box depth is required?

The module requires a minimum 25mm back box depth. Standard 35mm back boxes used in UK electrical installations provide sufficient depth for this module plus a modular faceplate.
