Description
The Toro is a black polycarbonate outdoor coach lantern with an integrated 8W LED and switchable colour temperature. The upward-facing design directs light up through an opal diffuser, casting ambient illumination onto porch ceilings, door canopies and surrounding brickwork. A wall-mounted switch on the lantern itself allows the LED to be toggled between 3000K warm white and 4000K cool white without rewiring.
Designed for UK front doors, side entrances, patios and covered outdoor seating areas, the Toro carries an IP44 rating against rain and dust ingress. The polycarbonate housing resists corrosion in coastal and exposed environments where painted steel or aluminium fittings would degrade faster. The 220mm height and 190mm projection suit typical porch walls without overwhelming smaller doors or interfering with door swing clearance.
The opal diffuser softens the light output to 350 lumens at 3000K or 375 lumens at 4000K, avoiding the harsh glare of clear-cover coach lanterns while providing enough spread for safe passage along a pathway or identifying door numbers after dark. The polycarbonate housing is impact-resistant and lighter than glass equivalents, reducing the load on the wall mounting plate. Class II double insulation means the fitting does not require an earth connection, simplifying installation on masonry walls without exposed metalwork.
The integrated SMD LED is rated for 36,000 hours to L70 (the point at which light output falls to 70% of initial lumens), equivalent to approximately 12 years of typical dusk-to-dawn outdoor use. The 90-degree beam angle concentrates light upwards while avoiding spillage into neighbouring properties or dark-sky-sensitive areas.

Frequently Asked
How is the colour temperature changed between 3000K and 4000K?
A toggle switch on the wall mounting plate allows the colour temperature to be switched between warm white and cool white. This is done once during installation or maintenance, not as a daily control. The fitting must be isolated from the mains before adjusting the switch.
Can it be used in uncovered outdoor locations?
The IP44 rating protects against rain and dust from any angle, so the Toro can be mounted on exposed walls. However, IP44 is not submersion-rated, so the fitting should not be installed where it will be submerged or subjected to pressure-washing jets.
Is the LED replaceable?
No. The LED is integrated into the fitting and not user-replaceable. The 36,000-hour lifespan means the LED should outlast the typical working life of the polycarbonate housing in outdoor conditions.
What wall surface is needed for installation?
The lantern mounts to a standard back box or directly to masonry using wall plugs and screws. Class II construction means no earth connection is required, but the mounting surface should be solid brick, block or rendered masonry capable of supporting the weight of the fitting.
