Tomar 2 Light Rectangle Outdoor Wall Light 16cm High - Sand Black

Light travels up and out of the top of this slim rectangular fitting and down out of the base, through clear diffuser panels set into each end. The sand black finish is matt rather than glossy, with a fine grain to it, so it settles quietly against brick, render or painted timber. Two GU10 lamps sit inside, one aimed each way, and reflector lamps give the crisp fan of light that suits a housing this compact. Standing around 160mm tall, it holds tight to the wall.

We would put a pair of these either side of a front door, or single ones down the length of a garden wall where a hanging lantern would only get in the way. They earn their keep by a garage, over a side gate or above a bin store, anywhere you want the wall itself lit rather than the whole garden. Each lamp takes up to 50W, and LED is what we would choose here for the running cost. There is no switch on the body, so control comes from indoors, and dimming is possible provided the lamps you fit are dimmable.

The body is finished to cope with weather and is sealed against rain and windblown dust, so it can face open sky as readily as a sheltered porch. Keep it looking right by wiping the diffusers and the housing now and then with a damp cloth, lifting off any grit or salt film before it dulls the surface, with the power off and the lamps cold. It carries a two year warranty. The Tomar range also runs to a curved version and a sand white finish, and to single lamp models if you want something smaller by a back door. Lamps are not included.

What lamps does it take?

Two GU10 lamps, one for the upward beam and one for the downward. A 50mm reflector LED is the recommended choice, and the maximum is 50W per lamp. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can I dim it?

Yes, if you fit dimmable GU10 lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer. Non-dimmable lamps will not respond and can flicker or buzz.

How much wall space does it need?

It is 68mm wide and about 160mm tall, with a projection of 78mm, so it stays close to the wall and clear of a door swing.

Is it suitable for an exposed wall?

It is rated IP54, which covers rain and windblown dust, so an open elevation is fine as well as a covered porch.

How should I clean it?

Switch off at the mains and let the lamps go cold, then wipe the housing and the clear diffusers with a damp cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive pads, which will mark the matt finish.

Does it come in other shapes or colours?
