The Terni Pro is a round recessed downlight in black, with a body of cast aluminium that sits into the ceiling so only a neat ring shows. It is 9.2cm across and 12.5cm tall, and it takes a single GU10 bulb, which is not included, so you choose the brightness and the colour of light that suits each room. GU10 bulbs are easy to find and simple to swap, which keeps future changes quick.

A black downlight looks crisp and graphic against a white ceiling and almost disappears into a dark one. Set in a line along a hallway or landing, or spaced across a living room, bedroom or study, it gives even light without a pendant hanging into the room. The adjustable inner ring lets you aim the beam, which is handy for picking out a picture, a bookshelf or a favourite reading chair rather than lighting only the floor. It suits anyone who wants a clean, uncluttered ceiling and the freedom to change the bulb as their needs change.

The body is cast aluminium, a metal that is light and does not rust, and the whole downlight weighs just 0.18KG. Spring clips hold it in place once it is in the ceiling. It needs a cut-out 8.5cm wide and a recess depth of 13cm above the ceiling, so measure the void before you order, especially close to joists. It runs on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, has no switch of its own and is switched at the wall, and it is installed by a qualified electrician.
