Description
The Knightsbridge EMLSUSL is a double-sided LED emergency exit sign suspended on two adjustable cables from a white polycarbonate ceiling box, allowing the sign panel to hang above doorways and corridor junctions where ceiling-mounted signs would be obscured. The maximum drop including the sign panel is 800mm, adjustable on installation to suit ceiling heights and door frame clearances. The sign comes supplied with an arrow-up legend and can be wired for maintained (permanently lit) or non-maintained (emergency-only) operation.
Designed for commercial, retail, hospitality and public building compliance with UK fire safety regulations, the sign provides 3 hours of emergency illumination during mains power loss, powered by an integrated LiFePO4 battery. The double-sided configuration makes the sign visible from both approach directions, reducing the number of fittings needed in corridors and hallways. The IP20 rating suits dry interior locations including offices, schools, hospitals, hotels and retail spaces.
The white polycarbonate housing measures 300mm wide by 185mm tall by 45mm deep, with the green legend panel illuminated by integrated SMD LEDs operating at 6000K daylight white. In mains mode the sign outputs 15 lumens; in emergency mode (battery backup) it outputs 8 lumens, maintaining visibility for safe evacuation. The sign cannot be wired for switched-maintained use — it operates either as permanently lit (maintained) or emergency-only (non-maintained), selectable via a switch on the fitting.
Additional legend options (arrow down, arrow left, arrow right, running man only, combined directional variants) are available separately and clip onto the same sign body, allowing the same fitting to be used in different orientations throughout a building without needing multiple SKUs in stock.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between maintained and non-maintained operation?
Maintained mode keeps the sign permanently illuminated whenever mains power is present, switching to battery backup during power loss. Non-maintained mode leaves the sign unlit during normal operation and only illuminates when mains power fails. The mode is selected via a switch on the fitting during installation.
How long does the battery last in emergency mode?
The integrated LiFePO4 battery provides 3 hours of emergency illumination at 8 lumens output, meeting UK fire safety regulation requirements for most commercial and public buildings.
Can the legend be changed?
Yes. The arrow-up legend supplied as standard clips onto the sign body and can be replaced with alternative legends (arrow down, arrow left, arrow right, running man only) sold separately by Knightsbridge. The same sign fitting can be reused in different orientations by swapping the legend panel.
What ceiling height is needed?
The maximum drop including the sign panel is 800mm from the ceiling box. For installation above a 2m-tall door frame with typical ceiling heights of 2.4-3m, the adjustable suspension allows the sign to be positioned clearly above the door without hanging too low into the corridor.
