Description

This is a constant current driver, a flat white disc of a thing that sits between the mains and an LED module and holds the current steady so the light output stays even. It answers to DALI and to push dimming, so it will take instructions from a building control system or from an ordinary retractive switch, whichever the room already runs on. Rated at 15W, it is sized for a small fitting or a short run of them rather than a whole floor.

We reach for a driver like this when a light needs to dim properly and the usual trailing edge arrangement is not going to behave. It earns its keep in kitchens, hallways, shop fronts and hotel corridors, anywhere the lighting is expected to lift and drop through the day without flicker or a sudden step at the bottom of the dimming curve. It belongs in dry indoor positions, away from damp and away from anything that traps heat around it. The shallow depth and the modest 142mm diameter keep it discreet in a ceiling void or a service cupboard.

The casing is white, plain and unbranded to look at, and light enough in the hand that it asks very little of whatever supports it. Care amounts to isolating the circuit, letting things cool and lifting off any dust with a soft brush or a dry cloth, since a coating of fluff is the main thing that shortens a driver's life. It carries a three year warranty. We stock it beside the Sunset recessed bases, which come in five cut out sizes and in black, gold and white, so the driver and the fittings it powers can be ordered together. The LED module it drives is bought separately.
