Description

This is the control gear rather than the light itself: a small white driver that takes the mains supply and hands an LED fitting the steady current it needs to run properly. Output is a constant 500mA, and it is a plain on/off device, so the circuit is switched at the wall and the light comes up at full brightness. The body is a shallow round disc, 92mm across, in white. We keep it as our everyday driver for modest LED loads.

It is meant to work alongside LED fittings of matching current draw, including the recessed bases in this range, and it belongs in dry indoor rooms rather than anywhere exposed to weather or splashing. Hallways, kitchens, sitting rooms, bedrooms, and small commercial ceilings are all fair ground. It suits two kinds of buyer: the one replacing a driver that has given up, and the one putting a scheme together from separate parts who would rather the gear came from the same family as the fittings. If you want the lights on a dimmer, we would steer you to a dimmable driver instead, as this one does not dim.

The casing is white all over, low and round, so it reads as a neat disc rather than a box. Housekeeping is minimal: switch off at the consumer unit first, then lift any dust off the casing with a dry cloth, and keep liquids and aerosol cleaners away from it altogether. It carries a three year warranty. The wider range runs to recessed bases in several sizes with different cut-outs, offered in black, gold and white, so the driver can be bought alongside whichever of those you have settled on. It is sold on its own, without a fitting.
