Description

These pencil pleat curtains carry Strawberry Thief, one of William Morris's best-loved patterns, first drawn in 1883 and said to have come from the thrushes he found stealing fruit in his kitchen garden. Here the design is rendered as a jacquard, woven rather than printed, so the birds, strawberries and trailing flowers sit in the cloth itself. The ground reads as a deep indigo blue, with the pattern picked out in soft creams, tans, rust and muted greens. Each order is a pair of curtains, made from 100% polyester and fully lined, with a 5 inch pencil pleat header sewn along the top.

A jacquard weave of this weight suits a room where you want the window to hold its own. It sits happily against panelled walls and painted joinery, and works with mid-toned wood, warm metals and green planting, as the styled rooms show. Because the pencil pleat header gathers onto standard curtain hooks, these hang from a track or a pole with rings equally well, which gives you room to match whatever fixing you already have. The pattern repeats densely, so it reads as a whole across a wide window rather than as a single motif you have to centre.

The curtains come lined, which adds body to the drape and helps the fabric fall in even folds when drawn. Polyester holds colour well and resists creasing, and this pair is dry clean and cool iron only, so it is worth planning for a trip to the cleaner rather than a home wash. Eight size combinations run from 117 by 137cm up to 228 by 228cm, measured as width by drop per pair, so you can pick a width that gathers properly and a drop that reaches your sill, radiator or floor. Strawberry Thief also appears across cushions and other pieces if you want to echo it elsewhere in the room.

Frequently Asked

How many curtains come in a pack?

Each size you select is a pair of curtains, so you receive two panels ready to hang across a single window from one order.

Will these fit a curtain pole or a track?

The 5 inch pencil pleat header gathers onto standard curtain hooks, which means the pair works on either a pole with rings or a track.

Are the curtains lined?

Yes, they are fully lined, which adds weight to the drape and helps the fabric hang in even folds when the curtains are drawn.

How do I clean them?

These curtains are dry clean and cool iron only, so take them to a professional cleaner rather than washing them at home.

What size should I choose?

Sizes are given as width by drop per pair and run from 117 by 137cm up to 228 by 228cm, so measure your window before choosing.

Is the pattern woven or printed?

The Strawberry Thief design is a jacquard weave, meaning the birds and flowers are formed in the cloth itself rather than printed on the surface.
