Description

Stockholm is a table lamp in marble grey. An opal ball standing upright in a low brass cup, finished at the top with a bright brass ring set on a short post so the whole reads as a lidded jar with a handle. Bands of warm grey-brown marbling sweep across the glass in broad streaks, wider at one side and fading out at the other. The brass base is a plain turned cylinder with a small control let into its side. There is no flex, so the lamp is meant to be picked up and carried by its ring. It measures 15cm across and 19cm tall, in glass and metal.

It is a lamp to carry: a side table indoors, then a garden table, a balcony rail or a step by the back door once the evening is warm enough to sit out. Rated IP44, it will take rain and splashing while it is out there, though it is meant to come back in rather than be left through the winter. Running off its own battery is what makes that possible: there is no flex to find a socket for and nothing to trip over on a terrace.

The LED is built in at 1.5W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It has 3 brightness settings, changed by switching off at the wall and straight back on, so no dimmer is needed. It carries a D energy label. It runs on a 3000mAh battery and charges in about 4-5 hours, so it can be carried from room to room.

Do I need to buy a bulb?

No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.

What happens when the LED fails?

The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 1.5W and normal domestic use that is many years away.

How do I change the brightness?

Switch off at the wall and straight back on. Each flick moves it to the next setting. No dimmer is needed.

Will it work on a dimmer?

It does not need one, and it should not be fitted to one. Brightness is controlled from the wall switch instead.

Can it be used outside?

Yes, in a sheltered spot. It is rated IP44, so it will take rain and splashing water, and it is meant to be carried out and brought back in rather than left out through the winter.
