Sophia 10 Light Crystal Flush Ceiling Light - Polished Chrome

The Sophia is a 600mm flush ceiling light built around a circular polished chrome frame from which ten E14 bulb fittings sit behind cascading tiers of cut crystal drops and crystal bead strands. Each of the ten bulbs (sold separately, max 40W each) illuminates the surrounding crystal from behind, refracting light through multiple layers of faceted glass and creating overlapping prismatic reflections across the chrome structure.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, the Sophia's 375mm drop from ceiling to lowest crystal point makes it suitable for bedrooms, dining rooms, and hallways where a full pendant would hang too low. The flush-mount canopy fixes directly to a standard UK ceiling rose, and the 10kg weight requires secure fixing into a ceiling joist or using appropriate cavity fixings on plasterboard ceilings. The polished chrome finish reflects surrounding light and amplifies the crystal's sparkle under both natural daylight and artificial lighting.

Each crystal drop is individually hand-hung on the frame, and the layered arrangement creates visual depth without the mass of a full chandelier. The combination of faceted teardrop crystals and smaller bead strands produces varied refraction patterns depending on the bulb type used — clear filament bulbs create sharper prismatic effects, while frosted LED bulbs diffuse the light more evenly across the crystal surfaces. What bulbs does the Sophia take?

The fitting takes ten E14 (small Edison screw) bulbs, each rated up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for ambient lighting, or clear filament-style LED bulbs for sharper prismatic refraction through the crystal.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

The Sophia has a 375mm drop from ceiling to the lowest crystal point. It works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, where it provides decorative lighting without encroaching into head clearance. For ceilings below 2.4m, consider a shallower flush fitting from the Diyas range.

Can the Sophia be dimmed?

Yes, when paired with dimmable E14 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. The chrome frame and wiring support dimming, but the dimmer compatibility depends on the specific bulb model chosen.

How is the crystal cleaned?

Switch off the mains supply and allow bulbs to cool. Wipe each crystal drop individually with a dry microfibre cloth. For heavier dust or marks, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water, then dry immediately. Avoid household sprays or chemical cleaners, which can leave residue on the faceted surfaces and dull the refraction.
